Joanne Camilleri has been making a name for herself both in Malta and around Europe, being described as “a musician of high intelligence and artistic vision” by international pianist William Fong. She is the recipient of numerous awards and scholarships, as well as prize winner of various competitions.
Tutored locally by Vincent Borg, Ingrid Calleja and Dr Mro Dion Buhagiar, she continued her studies at the prestigious Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, UK, after being awarded a 4-year International ABRSM Scholarship and sponsored by The Janatha Stubbs Trust. Tutored by Carole Presland and Alexander Melnikov at the RNCM, Joanne graduated with a BMus(Hons), PGDip(Perf) and MMus(Perf) all with Distinction. Recently, she was the first pianist to be awarded a Doctorate of Music in Performance by the University of Malta where she was mentored by Mro Michael Laus.
An accomplished soloist with a wide-ranging repertoire, Joanne has performed in her native Malta, Tunisia, Sweden, Switzerland, Poland, Wales, Ireland, the Isle of Man, and around the UK, including St Martin-in-the-Fields and St James Piccadilly in London, to high acclaim. She has been invited to perform at prestigious functions including those at the President’s Palace in Malta, at the German and USA Ambassadors’ Residences, as well as other concerts organised under the auspices of the Ambassadors for Ireland, UK, Poland, Tunisia and China. As concerto soloist, Joanne has performed with British Orchestras and the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra.
An avid chamber musician, Joanne has worked with many professional partners in various ensembles, including touring Sweden and the UK with the Camilleri Trio, with whom she has also recorded a score for a silent film by Yasujirô Ozu, recently released on DVD by the British Film Institute. She also regularly performs with Goldberg Ensemble Malta, Valletta International Baroque Ensemble and Bar-to-Bar. Joanne is also orchestral pianist with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra with whom she has performed numerous concerts in Malta and abroad.
